The internet works as the most powerful tool to enhance the quality of life of humans and businesses. Everyone feels the power and impact of the Internet. Every business operation can be handled through the Internet and some operations such as marketing, customer support and feedback tracking are now becoming easier than before only because of the Internet.
Ethernet cable is a great invention for the networking world. These cables power the Internet from behind by providing excellent technical support. No one can imagine a greater pace of Internet speed without ethernet cables. 100 MBPS or 10 Gigabit speed is now possible due to these high-quality networking cables.
Various types of networking cables are available in the market. From coaxial to twisted to fibre-optic Ethernet cables, we have multiple options to speed up our networking systems. All these types of Ethernet cables are used for different purposes so we should understand the requirements for each type of Ethernet cable for specific needs.
Ethernet cable is the best choice for universal connectivity of LAN networking components such as PCs, computer servers, printers, routers, switch boxes, network media players, NAS, VoIP phones, PoE devices, and more. Most Ethernet cables that are available in the market are not delivering promising results so identifying a high-performance networking cable is important to get the optimum results. We are here to share some great parameters to judge the quality of networking cables.
AE Connect is aware of the needs of businesses from various industries. We have been constantly delivering high-quality and high-performing connectivity products for more than one and a half-decade. We are focused on fulfilling all the networking and connectivity needs of businesses globally. Our product delivers the expected results needed for any business. This spirit is no different for Cat 6 Cables too. These next-generation networking cables are the best solution for businesses who are looking for accessories that support a speed of 10 Gigabit smoothly.
What Are Cat 6 Cables?
Category 6 cable (Cat 6) is a sixth-generation standardized twisted pair cable for Ethernet and other network physical layers that is backward compatible with the Category 5/5e and Category 3 cable standards. Cat 6 is an Ethernet cable standard defined by the Electronic Industries Association and Telecommunications Industry Association.
How do Cat 6 cables work?
One of the most popular qualities of Cat 6 cables is that it supports Gigabit Ethernet data rates of 1 gigabit per second. Over a limited distance, these cables can accommodate 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections – generally about 180ft for a single cable. The most useful feature of Cat 6 cables is that these cables contain four pairs of copper wire and use all the pairs for signalling to obtain great performance.
Cat 6, an unshielded twisted-pair design, emerged as an advancement of the UTP Cat5e. The design of these cables requires stringent precision in manufacturing and this enabled reduced noise and crosstalk, allowing improved performance.
Twisting the wires together enables the currents to balance by allowing current flow for one wire in one direction and in the other wire of the pair, current flows in the other direction, enabling the overall fields around this twisted pair to cancel.

Know some basic facts about Cat 6 cables:
- Cat 6 specification requires conductors to be pure copper
- Cat 6 cables can be identified by the printing on the side of the cable sheath
- Cabling topologies, cable types and connector types are defined by ANSI/TIA-568
- An enhanced version of Cat 6, called Cat 6a, supports up to 10 Gbps speeds at greater distances
- Like previous generations of Ethernet cables, the ends of Cat 6 cables also use the same RJ-45 standard connector
Cat 6 vs Cat 6a
The Category 6 Augmented cable standard, or Cat 6a was created to further improve the performance of Category 6 networking cables. Cat 6a cables allow us 10 Gigabit Ethernet data rates over a single cable run up to 328 feet. Cat 6 supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet only up to 180ft of cable length. Along with higher performance, Cat 6a cables also cost more than Cat 6 and are slightly thicker. Cat 6a still uses the standard RJ-45 connectors.
Cat 6 vs Cat 5e
The experiment in cable design for Ethernet networks resulted in two separate efforts for improvement on the Cat 5 cable standard. One eventually became Cat 6 and the other is called Cat 5e.
Cat 5e lacks some features that went into Cat 6, but it allows Gigabit Ethernet installations at a lower cost. Cat 5e uses a four-wire-pair signalling scheme, as Cat6, to achieve its data throughput rates. On the Contrary, Cat 5 cables contain four wire pairs but only use two of the pairs.
Cat 5e became a popular choice for wired Ethernet installations because it became available in the market sooner and offered acceptable performance for Gigabit Ethernet at a more affordable price. Along with the relatively slow transition of the industry to 10 Gigabit Ethernet, this value proposition significantly slowed the adoption of Cat 6.
Advantages of using Cat 6 Cables
-
Speed and Performance
Today, Life depends on speed. The faster speed you have, the faster your output will be. By using Cat 6 cables, ensure high speed and performance of the networking system. 10 Gigabit internet speed will amaze you by transferring large amounts of data without any limitations.
-
Similar Structure to Cat 5 Cable
Similarity with the structure of Cat 5 cables allows systems to connect freely without updating the previous structure. This will also be helpful to save more money for other business operations.Â
-
Backward Compatible
Backward compatibility is a property of a system, product, or technology that allows for interoperability with the older system. When it comes to Cat 6 cables backward compatibility comes at ease.
-
Upgradable
The upgraded version of the Category 6 version is already on our bucket list. Cat 6 Augmented cables is an upgraded version of Cat 6. By using Cat 6a we can get 10 Gigabit speed over a longer distance of 328ft.
